Nnenna Onuba, an M&A banker turned Beauty innovator is our feature in this week’s Inspirational Woman. At the end of 2017, Nnenna traded a 17-year career in M&A with firms such as Rothschild and PwC for a new adventure: building her own active wellness brand, LBB. With 1st hand experience as a working executive – approaching 40, starting to notice the mounting effects of her busy lifestyle – LBB (Short for “Life is Beautiful in Balance”) was founded with one mission in mind. To improve the experience of the conscious and busy beauty consumer – making it simply effortless to rejuvenate skin and find those moments for balance wherever you can. The multitasking and time-saving products are innovative and much-loved, with a backdrop of wellness, sophisticated design and sustainability. LBB has built a loyal following, won numerous industry awards and is now growing directly and with retailers such as Fenwick and Wolf & Badger.
1. Best piece of advice you’ve been given
You miss 100% of the shots you don’t take.
2. Worst piece of advice you’ve been given
“Keep your head down, pay your dues, and let your work speak for itself.” Well-meaning or not advice like this curbs ambition and reinforces multiple clichés to keep women in non-threatening positions.
3. What would you tell your younger self?
“Trust your gut, enjoy the ride and keep more written notes!” I’m always amazed how many great ideas, thoughts and experiences I’ve forgotten!
4. What excites you most about the future of your industry?
There is clear evidence that diversity wins. Women and culturally diverse leaders hire more diverse teams and build better performing businesses. Changing the status quo and building the next generation of beauty enterprises fills me with excitement!
5. Who or what is your biggest inspiration?
Stress is the next epidemic according to the WHO. The conviction to turn my passion into a career comes from a deep desire to improve lives and promote a better sense of wellbeing. Success is not just defined by work, but by quality of life. Life is Beautiful in Balance. When we feel well we accomplish more!
